The 17th Korean Presidential Candidates' Policy Comparison. Korean Policy Studies Review, 18(3) : 71-90.

   This study compares the policies proposed by the 17th Korean presidential candidates. Although it is generally accepted that there is no policy debates in the Korean presidential elections, the study examines the differences of the presidential candidates' policy for policy election. To clarify the arguments, the study compares the policies of two main presidential candidates who are the government party candidate, Chung Dong Young, and the main opposition party candidate, Lee Myungbak. 90 questions in four fields, that is, Politics and Administration, Diplomacy·National Security·Reunification, Economy and Science, and Education·Society·Culture, are raised for their policies. From their policy differences, policy debates of Korean presidential elections could be possible. The number of issues clearly debatable between two candidates is 28(31%) out of 90 issues. Especially, Two candidates policies are different from the Rho Moo-Hyun government's policy. 62 policies (69%) of Lee's are different from the former government's, and 34 policies (38%) of Chung's are different.
